Aerospace Standards (available from SAE)

There have been many updates in the last couple years in Aviation, Space and Defense. The AQMS standards AS9100,  AS9110, & AS9120  have been updated and released along with the  AS9101/2009 QMS Audit Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense Organization which updates the current AS9101(C) QMS Assessment Questionnaire.  

Below is a list of updated standards.

AS9100:2009 Quality Management Systems - Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense Organizations - Published in Jan 2009

AS9101/2009 QMS Audit Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense 

AS9110:2009 Quality Management Systems - Requirements for Aviation Maintenance Organizations - Published in June 2009 

AS9120:2009 Quality Management Systems - Requirements for Aviation, Space & Defense Distributors - Published June 2009

AS9104/A - Supporting Standard For Registrars- Standard Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense QMS Certification Programs (currently being revised to be released as AS9104-1).

AS9014 - Americas Aerospace Quality Group (AAQG) Requirements for Aerospace Quality Management System Certification/Registrations Programs, this has replaced AIR5359. The AS9014 standard includes the AS9104 requirements and specifies additional AAQG(Americas)requirements for certification/registration of Aerospace Quality Management Systems.

AS9104/2 -  Requirements for Oversight of AQMS

AS9104/3 - Aerospace Trainer Providers -Requirements for Aerospace Auditor competency and Training Courses

Suppliers are encouraged to go to the website and download a copy of the Supply Chain Management Handbook (SCMH) which has been published as an E-Book. This handbook has been provided by the IAQG to assist with the advancement of quality practices. Its use is entirely voluntary.

AS9100/9110/9120:2009 Transition Information---
Per the Supplemental Rule 001- Rules for 9100/9110/9120/:2009 Transition Revised 18 May  

Jan 1, 2010 - April 1, 2010   -      
  • Develop auditor training / training            
  • Provider approvals
April 30, 2010 - July 1, 2011 -    
  • Train Trainers 
  • Train auditors 
  • Accredit CB's (approve transition plans)  
Certification of organizations can start after auditors are transitioned and CB's (registrars) are approved.

July 1, 2011 - July 1, 2012  - All Audits to New Standard
Effective July 01, 2011, all Aerospace registered companies must start transitioning to the new standard.  

Effective July 1, 2012,  AS9100:2004 (B) is canceled

Audit Day Increase - There will be an increase in the number of audit days with the new standard and report format. This is a mandatory requirements of the industry due to the many additional requirements.  Many smaller companies will see a  1-2 day increase in their audits.

Companies wishing to maintain their Aerospace registration should be ready or need to move quickly to meet the deadline.   Any company not transitioned prior to July 01, 2012, their certificate will be cancelled and they  will need to complete an initial Stage 1 & 2 audit.

All AS9100C audits must be completed, closed, reviewed and approved prior to AS9100B being cancelled on July 01, 2012.  For information regarding changes for AS9100/9110/9120:2009 go to the AAQG website (http://www.sae.org/aaqg/), there are presentations and FAQ's for each standard to help you transition, on the right side of the page click on:  AS9100C Deployment Support Materials

OASIS is the Online Aerospace Supplier Information System for Aerospace.

  • All registered AS9100 companies must be listed listed on the OASIS.
  • All companies must have an assigned OASIS Supplier Administrator
